All You Need To Know About Floral Wedding Jewelry

Every bride goes out of her way to look absolutely resplendent on her big day or other functions. She will leave no stone unturned when it comes to her makeup, jewellery, hair or the outfit. Talking about jewellery, floral jewellery is often worn by the bride at functions like mehendi, haldi and sangeet ceremonies. This is a traditional ritual but looks absolutely divine on the bride if done right. But the reality is that the jewelry made of flowers is actually a bit fragile and needs to be handled with care while going about all the functions. You definitely don’t want to ruin your white beautiful jewellery with haldi stains, right? Especially, not for the candid photos. So this blog will guide you through the types of flowers to use, their durability, how to handle them and last but not the least variety of jewelry that you can wear at your haldi ceremony.

Types of flowers

This entirely depends on the color and design of your outfit and also the availability of your preferred flowers.  Floral jewellery can be made with any kind of flowers but try to pick the ones that are small in size. Some common ones include tuberose (rajnigandha), orchids, jasmine, roses and carnations. But   you can always go with unconventional choices like sunflowers, hydrangeas and daisies if they match with your outfit. They will surely make a bold fashion statement. If you are planning on wearing a tiara then filler flowers such as baby’s breath and  mogra can be used along with some foliage to give it a more rustic and modern look.

Durability

Well! It is very important to keep the floral jewellery fresh as you are going to wear it for a longer period of time.  For that you may want to put the jewellery in the refrigerator if you have got it delivered way before the actual event. Ideally it should be made one or two days prior to the ceremony. Meanwhile, keep it in the fridge by wrapping it in a moist cloth so that the flowers don’t dry up. If you don’t trust fresh flowers or don’t have the time to take care of them you can go ahead with the jewellery that is made with dry flowers as they don’t require any extra care and can be preserved for a long time and to be honest, they look very pretty.

Different types of flower jewellery

  1. Neckpiece

This is the most important jewelry piece as it is going to decide whether you need more jewelry or not. Brides often like to wear a simple single string necklace but now heavy ones are in too!  You can go with the more elaborate and intricate one as it looks very royal.

2. Earrings

You have a lot of options in this arena such as big studs, danglers or earrings that cover the whole ear. You need to go with light earrings if you are pairing it with the heavy necklace and vice versa.

3. Bangles

This is a must as they will really look good in your candid pictures.

4. Kamarband

This is often worn around the waist when you are wearing a sari or a lehenga. You might want to wear a kamarband if you are going for a full bridal look.

5. Hand harness

This is my personal favorite! Most brides prefer wearing hand harnesses rather than bangles and rings separately as the former look very traditional.

6. Tiara

Well! This is the best option for a hair ornament if you are planning on wearing your hair open. You can also order some matching floral tiaras for your bridesmaids as well.

7. Gajra

Another hair jewellery that is often worn is a jasmine gajra if you are wearing your hair in a bun.

Pairing it with your outfit!

  • The color of the floral jewellery should be in contrast with the outfit and it must compliment it well.
  • While choosing the neckpiece, keep in mind the neckline of your blouse. If it is a deep neckline you can go with the heavy and intricate necklace and vice versa.
  • You can get creative with the jewellery and can mix and match it with some pearls and beads.
  • Many brides take the tradition of floral jewellery to the next level by wearing a floral kalira , floral dupatta or even a floral lehenga, so if you want to try something new why not give this a try.

If fresh flower jewellery is difficult to handle, get the artificial ones but  check the material in order to prevent any skin allergies.
